Hmm ... I'm at a bit of a loss then. Still seems like it's the driver that would be truncating things because as far as I know there's nothing on the OpenBD side of the equation that would care about things at that level ... I assume this is on MySQL 5? And you're using the drivers that ship with OpenBD?
I'll add playing around with this to my to do list and see what I can figure out.
