Do you need event gateways specifically, or are you just needing to do asynchronous processing? If just asynchronous, specifically what are you needing to do? OpenBD has things like running queries in background threads with a simple "background" attribute, as well as cfthread (looks like Adam beat me to that!).
And also as Adam said, we love to hear from people what they'd like to see implemented so if you need something specific, let us know so we can investigate.
