I can find hardly any documentation on IIS, is it even supported? Is there not a clear cut how-to?
Realize that what you're really interested in is connecting IIS into the Java servlet container you're using, so it isn't a question of whether or not OpenBD "supports" IIS. It's all about getting IIS to talk to the servlet container (Jetty, Tomcat, etc.).
All that being said, we definitely need a how-to on this.
I love this BD product, don't even want to consider moving to ADOBE (YAY NewAtlanta!), and will right the darn how-to for IIS for the community if necessary.
Consider yourself hired. ;-) I can do the legwork on researching this if necessary but a how-to for the wiki on IIS would be fantastic.
If not I might have to savour my lone BD7 installation file and make backups of it so I can keep using it in the future.
It's definitely doable. I know I've seen how-tos for Tomcat and IIS so I'm sure it's doable with Jetty as well.
I am googling all this, but not finding much. It appears everyone is installing Jetty (but my research says that's not a viable alternative for a busy site built on IIS).
Well, point of clarification is probably warranted here as well. IIS is a web server, while Jetty is a servlet container that also includes a web server. Jetty (as I'm sure Alan will jump in and tell you) is PERFECTLY capable of handling high-traffic sites, so if you don't *need* IIS, that's another option to consider. If you don't need IIS you could also consider running Apache, where you'll likely find a lot more documentation since (at least in my experience) that's a much more common setup.
My goal is to setup a vmWare based Windows 2003 (not comfortable with 2008 yet) virtual server, prepackaged with IIS/openBD/SQL-Server Express and configured for a single default site. Is this feasible?
Totally feasible, I just don't use IIS in this kind of setup so I'm not personally familiar with it.
Some info here that might be a head start on a how-to: http://groups.google.com/group/openbd/browse_thread/thread/c048dd1323653d1eI'll try to dig further but if anyone else has more info or has done this sort of setup, please chime in so we can get the info added to the wiki!
