When you create a "New Web Application Project" using the GAE plug-in for Eclipse, it should automatically include all the necessary JARs within the WEB-INF/lib of your project. Specifically, it should contain the datanucleus-core-1.1.0.jar file, which contains the QueryCompilerSyntaxException class. The error you're getting says that the QueryCompilerSyntaxException class can't be found, which indicates that the datanucleus-core-1.1.0.jar file is missing from your WEB-INF/ lib directory.
