Hey Folks,

Alright, after an amazing amount of work, I've got a BETA version of the
OpenBD 1.1 installer available for testing. I've tested it exhaustively
in my own development environment, so now it would be great if I could
get some functionality feedback from anyone willing to give it a try and
let me know how it works for them.

For those of you who have never heard of the "Installer" before, the
"Installer" creates a single instance of OpenBD that can manage multiple
web sites through Apache. Because of how it ties into Apache, it is
compatible with most server control panels. The Installer's target
audience is anyone who wants to easily manage multiple domain names
using only a single instance of OpenBD and (probably) a control panel.

While the installer package itself remains nearly identical to the
previous installers, a great deal of effort was placed on several new
features. I've outlined those in the release notes below. Here's a link:

http://openbd.viviotech.net/downloader.cfm/id/70/file/openbd-1.1.0_rhel32_pl0_beta.sh

I really have put this installer through it's paces, and I want to call
it production-ready. I guess I'm just looking for some confirmation that
things look good with it. =)

Documentation for the installer is available here:
http://wiki.openbluedragon.org/wiki/index.php/OpenBD_Installer

This is the 32-bit version. The 64-bit version will be released shortly.

Please help me test this by giving it a shot on one of your test systems
and letting me know how it works out for you. Thank you in advance for
any feedback you can offer.

Release Notes:

- [UPDATE] Installer now features UPGRADE functionality (for those of
you who are using previous versions of the installer). A huge amount of
time went into developing this feature.
- [UPDATE] Installer features an updated directory structure. OpenBD
directories are now almost entirely located in the root install
directory. This should make finding files for OpenBD much easier, and
should more accurately conform to the directory structure of existing
CFML servers.
- [UPDATE] Tomcat's heap size memory can now be controlled by updating
the setenv.sh file. Rather then no memory settings existing and Tomcat
reverting to it's defaults. The default heap size memory settings are
currently set to 128 MB minimum, and 256 MB Max.
- [UPDATE] Extra files (examples, demo, source) have been removed from
the bundled JDK in order to reduce the size of the installer. The
installer is now approximately 30 MB smaller then previous installers.
- [UPDATE] The installer will now prompt the user for an OpenBD
Administrator password. When Upgrading, the existing OpenBD
Administrator password is retained.
- [UPDATE] The OpenBD engine has been updated to support the resource
specification in the bluedragon.xml file. This makes features like
CFVIDEO possible when deployed outside the Jetty and WAR deployments.
Special thanks to Alan Williamson for his assistance and support in this
matter.
- [UPDATE] OS template default paths have been introduced into the
installer code. This will make it MUCH easier to support additional OS's
in future releases (like the much-requested UBUNTU support).
- [UPDATE] Tomcat's default settings (in web.xml) now contain OpenBD
code that supports SES URL's. The Apache connector and settings have
also been updated to support SES URL's. This means frameworks such as
Fusebox, etc that implement SES URL's should work out-of-the-box when
used on a system set up by the installer.
- [UPDATE] The 32-bit and the 64-bit versions have now been separated in
order for 64-bit installations to fully utilize the 64-bit JDK.
Previously, 64-bit installations still used the 32-bit JDK. This worked,
but was not as effecient as it could have been. This has now been corrected.
