thanks for your reply and taking the time to look into this.

For the record Matt asked me off-list what the class name was and that
solved it all:
I had registered the CFX tag with the .jar as opposed to just the
class name (no comments, it is in the doc, working too late!).
I got it to register. I then got other problems and I think I'm going
to explore a different route for reading Excel files (Ben Nadel).
