For those who are following OpenBD-GAE, it may appear that not much
has happened over the past month or so, but let me assure you that
there's been plenty of activity behind the scenes. Our current efforts
are focused on two items:
1) Run the full suite of regression tests that were created for the
commercial editions of BD; fix those failures that can be fixed right
away, and identify those failures that will require more effort. There
are thousands of tests, and the vast majority are passing
successfully. When this effort is finished we'll have an exact list of
what works and what doesn't, and be able to put together an action
plan to address the features that don't work. (Some features, such as
CFTHREAD, will never be able to be supported on GAE).
2) Provide SQL relational database support on GAE. As you may know,
GAE does not provide native support for SQL databases; we think this
feature crucial for CFML developers, particularly for porting existing
applications to GAE. This effort is currently be done as part of the
GaeVFS project:
http://code.google.com/p/gaevfs/wiki/H2GAE
The GaeVFS project is already being used to implement CFDIRECTORY,
CFFILE, and other file system related features in OpenBD-GAE. GaeVFS
will also be the foundation of the Lucene-based implementation of
CFSEARCH in OpenBD-GAE.
