Yes, for migrating existing applications that's a real issue--which is the
reason I started working on H2 support. You might also be interested in

Personally, I think it was a bit short-sighted of Google not to have planned
for some sort of SQL support, as Microsoft has for Azure. However, the fact
that Google rolled out Python almost a year before Java tells you a bit
about their mentality--in my opinion, a little too much "geek cool" and not
enough "business reality."
