We haven't discussed this specifically, but IMO leaving it set to the
default of the MySQL driver itself is the way to go, since otherwise if
people are used to how the driver itself behaves you're potentially
introducing unexpected behavior.

One of the enhancements on the list for future versions of the admin console
is to dig more into the specifics of each database driver and have more
friendly ways to manipulate the options of each specific driver, so if we
need to do so we may address it that way.
