That is a fascinating problem Bryan.
What you really want is a flag on CFMAIL that says SENDNOW="TRUE" and it
will wait there and then and throw up any errors if it doesn't succeed.
It would slow the page down a little as it relayed the email, but for
instances where you need to know its definitely gone.

I thought of using CFHTTP to check a known web page. The problem is it
only checks that page is responding....NOT that a connection to the web
exists ;-)
I'll have users using satellite phones as modems to send mail via the
app....so I think you'll see the issue ;-)
I need to tell them that (barring any other glitches) that they have
connected their modem and the mail "should" be delivered. What I'd
prefer not to do is keep checking the spool and undeliverable folders to
see if the mail went because once they hit send they will most likely
disconnect the sat modem.
