Thanks for the great tip. In order for me to get this working, I had to install GhostScript, and then reinstall ImageMagick in order for it to see GhostScript as a "delegate". The error messages were somewhat cryptic.
Once ImageMagick knows where to point PDF and PS operations (GhostScript) it worked exactly as described above.
