The ability to create symbolic and 'hard' links was introduced with Windows Vista. I use one on my Windows 7 machine to fool Steam into thinking my games directory is local, when in fact it's a symlink to an external drive. Just a related FYI. "Right" and "wrong" are such totally harsh words, dude...
