(And yes, that post is for Windows but the Apache and Tomcat configuration is the same on any OS.) Basically you just enable mod_proxy_ajp, then in your virtual host you'll use ajp:// instead of http:// for the ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse, and the port will be 8009 instead of 8080.
