The site already has a member login and other features that are tied into
the structure of the site. When people login, they are presented with a
basic control panel. From here users can manage the different functions of
the site.

 Not to impact your dreams (or "float a t*rd in your punchbowl" as my
brother would say), but perhaps you could just install the Mura open-source
CMS and tweak that to your needs? Seems like they've worked thru a lot of
this.

The only cost is that your own mod work would become open as well.
