Gordon, thanks for reporting this. I have added a specific proxy
option to the Desktop. You will see this pop up in the nightly building
tomorrow morning.
However, your way of doing it now is indeed an alternative. As you can
see from your logs it is working. However your upstream proxy host is
where the problem lies, it is reporting it cannot reach
"appengine.google.com"
