finally dug into this to see what the issue was/is.
My local development was on 1.4 for a long time so when i ran this it
worked fine. However, Google have introduced a major bug in the
Servlet layer in 1.5, which i confirmed this morning when i upgraded
to the latest GAE

I will let the list know as soon as this is resolved ... though i
don't hold out much hope for a speedy resolution, historically Google
aren't very quick in these matters. When they control the
underlying API's there is absolutely nothing you can do but wait.
This has taken the shine away for me personally for GAE. I am in two
minds as to whether or not I recommend to the steering committee
whether we should just drop support for it and concentrate on the core
engine and desktop launcher.
