The 'maxconnections' is at the OpenBD layer and it should be working.
There is a situation where it might not work where a connection may be deemed to be unrecoverable; sadly the driver doesn't help here when it comes to killing off the connection. So as far as OpenBD is concerned there is only 5connections, yet the driver has kept it open
