To be completely honest here ... we are climbing down from chasing the
word "compatible" with other engines. It's a fools business.
If you have to code for a given engine then you make changes
accordingly. The goal to be completely feature compatible is no longer
a priority. We want to provide features you want as oppose to
implementing "quirks" or features of other engines.
The code base is of course open source, so if anyone wants to spend
their time making things work like how other engines work then they are
free to do so and do not have to wait for us to do it. We will gladly
review and accept any patches additions to the core engine.
Adobe i believe are still in the business of trying to make money from
ColdFusion. Railo i believe also are in the business of making money
from ColdFusion. We however are not. We are a true open source
project with community input driving this forward. We have no hidden
agenda, no secret way of making money from your use of OpenBD.
To answer your original question ... the whole "component{}" we have
done, we just haven't got it ready yet for inclusion into the nightly
build. the http() again, we have had one of our engineers develop
this, and once Andy has reviewed the code we'll be dropping that into
the engine as a fully fledged core function and not a HACK of
distributing a CFC wrapper like other engines have been known to do in
the past.
We were the first to do QueryRun()
http://openbd.org/manual/?/function/queryrun but I have no idea what
CF10/9 does in this respect because to be quite frank, i have not looked
at their stuff in years. I really don't care what they do. I am
merely interested in what you guys need and what you need to do to make
money and power your business.
OpenBD has pioneered a lot of new functionality to CFML that other
engines have picked up and adapted for theirs, as well as changing it in
the process to be no longer "compatible" with us. Such is the way.
We've got some beautiful things coming up in the near future, including
a breathtakingly beautiful new site, deeper integration to Amazon Web
Services, MongoDB integration to name just some of the big ones.
