Hi Alan,

I've responded to your message in-line:

Quick question - we have been using the installer that VivoTech has
provided, which is tomcat/apache.

Awesome. Thanks! I'm glad it's helped!

Looking at the new site we have a "Ready2Run" version ... is this the
new equivalent? I think it says that
it has jetty as opposed to tomcat (which I'm not familiar with and makes
me a bit nervous). Does this version
work similar to the ACF - i.e. single install with virtual hosts?

I haven't tried this version in a while, but historically no, it's not the same. It's a single instance of Jetty configured with a single context of OpenBD. It is meant to give you something right away to start using. It's similar to the Railo Express edition if you've ever used that.

Also, I see there is a "OpenBD Jam" version too ... which I think is
basically the same as above but has
a databases server bundled - correct?

It contains everything. Web server, OBD, jetty, and the DB. It's similar to XAMPP if you've ever used that.

Just hoping to get a bit of clarification on these. We have been working
with CF since it was Alliare ver 1,
and very competent with Apache config and updates but still a bit "black
magic" with tomcat/java server.

Nice. CFML.EXE CGI days eh? I promise not to call you "old-timer"! =P

The viviotech installer has been amazing for us so far with minimal
configuration needed with the tomcat
(other than setting up Hosts in the server.xml file).

If you're interested, the OpenBD 2.0.2 installer comes with mod_cfml, which will automatically configure new hosts for you, so you don't have to edit the server.xml file any more if you don't want to. You can still add hosts to the server.xml file if you want to (like if you need to customise the config a bit), but with mod_cfml you don't have to. There's more info about mod_cfml over at http://modcfml.org/ if you want to know the specifics of how it works.

Thank you for the kind words!

Is it worth it to switch / consider jetty instead of tomcat?

Give it a try some time. See how it feels. =)

Hope this helps!

Warm regards,
Jordan Michaels
