Well I'm not sure about the most elegant solution, but as a general
rule; I always try to maintain ANY user-supplied content in the exact
same form as originally provided by the user. 

Any change you need to
make to that original - is done at the point you present the content
back - and is done temporarily for the manner of presentation at hand.


Technology is always marching forward, and you can't be blamed for
keeping whatever you were given. On the other hand, if you convert
someone's story to HTML and then store it (or convert someone's movie to
flash and then store that... a more relevant example, no?) - and then
dispose of the original; you are somewhat screwed when the "common"
presentation method moves on...
