I'm in the Apache Flex group on LinkedIn, and many folks there seem to love IntelliJ as an alternate to FlashBuilder.

OpenBD does not seem to have the "/flex2gateway/" api support that ACF does, so you may be limited to bulky XML calls - or getting the BlazeDS library working there - to make remote object calls from your swf, desktop or mobile device app to your server.

I think I spoke too soon, it seems the free (Community) edition of IntelliJ does not support Flex/AS.

I'm curious about Flex, I have been for some time and figured I'd finally look into it.
I understand everyone suggests using Flash Builder, which is not free, for building Flex apps, but since I like free, especially for playing around with, I read about an alternative called IntelliJ.

Anyone here building Flex apps and could give me some general ideas or suggestions on Flex, Flex with OpenBD or on IntelliJ?
