I imagine all that *required *or *required="true" *does is tell the
auto-generated JavaScript to make sure that field is not empty. It's highly
likely the required attribute is stripped by CFML thus negating any
benefits from HTML5. If you want HTML5 validation it's probably best to use
a regular input element.
