Hi,
if you don't have much experience with usual developing/building tools,
you should definitely go for pre-built binary packages, which also come
with sane configuration files installed under /etc/osmocom/*.cfg

However, take into account that it is expected that you are at least a
bit familiar with a regular mobile network architecture and its concepts.
