That won't activate acpi.  That only activates a daemon that collects 
from acpi in the kernel.

The solution that Sam posted about 'enable acpi' is correct.  However, 
acpi is still in active development and is not enabled by default for a 
reason.  While what is there mostly works, its not feature complete 
yet, and some systems still run into problems (a small number, but I 
know of at least one for sure).  Feel free to run with it, but keep in 
mind you are testing an experimental part of the system.  That being 
said, I run it on all of the machines I can, and I know others that run 
it on production machines.
