I tried doing

fdisk: 1> e 1
Partition id ('0' to disable) [0 - FF]: [0] (? for help) a6
Do you wish to edit in CHS mode? [n] y
BIOS Starting cylinder [0 - 38912]: [0] 203
BIOS Starting head [0 - 254]: [0] Enter
BIOS Starting sector [1 - 63]: [0] 1
BIOS Ending cylinder [0 - 38912]: [0] 2585
BIOS Ending head [0 - 254]: [0] 239
BIOS Ending sector [1 - 63]: [0] 63
fdisk:*1> f 1
fdisk:*1> w
fdisk: 1> q

and it goes into creating disklabel, I do

> a a

and it says there is no space left, shrink a partition, but XP's total size is 40GB on a 298GB drive. I created a 40 gig partition when I installed it, and in Windows it says it only has 40 gigs of hard drive space. I tried rebooting and it says there is no O/S. I go back into the Open installation fdisk and change it to fdisk: 1> f 0 fdisk: 1> w fdisk: 1> q and then reboot and XP loads no problem. Were the cylinders or heads set wrong or something?
