My sole guess would be that you are having memory hardware
errors.  But if it's doing it on two independent systems,
maybe that's not relevant.

I have an uneasy feeling about 4.6.  I've reverted two machines
to previous versions (4.2) because of strange behavior, including
kernal panics and X lockups.  Cowardice on my part, perhaps.

Not much help.  Sorry, really.
