thanks for pointing this out. I'm not sure, as I am no longer in office, but I think this really could be the cause. I did an mysqldump of the db, and I think the dump program converts LF to \n. Because Oracle sqlplus is braindead (it chokes on lines with more than 2499 characters) I wrote an Oracle Perl loader for the SQL dump. I think the \n are stored in the DB literally. Will check this tomorrow. Thanks for your help!
