obviously the problem is with the logging system but
what is the syslogdevice, directories and files have 
correct permissions and owners and applications can
send messages to the syslog daemon :-?

The only reference that I found to logging in the file openca-guide.pdf 
is in page 132 and it doesn't say nothing about the syslog daemon 
configuration.
