Hi,
we got the same problem but it was fixed.
The openssl-SNAP installes the openssl command into

/usr/local/ssl/bin/openssl

on our system by default. So you have to edit your ca.conf or make a
link to the new version of openssl.
It worked on our system, hope it does on yours...
