the script is already there: autoconf.
but first somebody has to identify all relevant places to substitute
(and change them to @KEYWORD@).

i take the prior version's diff and apply this patch, fix the rejects by
hand (and take a diff to apply it to the next version).
massimiliano mentioned then that openca was moving to using autoconf,
which was my proposal, too.
i could do the @KEYWORD@ substitution starting from one of those diffs.
