Yes. This is caused by an error in OpenSSL (sorry, it was my fault) 20011026.
I have sent patches for that and now it is correctly behaving (no more
NO X509_NAME).

Updating the openssl should fix the problem. I will soon put out the fixed
RPM ASAP (you can download the openssl-SNAP-20011028.tar.gz, anyway).
