Hey to the List!!!

I've been assigned to take over where a not-so-successful admin left off in
Implementing the OpenCA architecture.
I've done a bit of homework and understand quite a bit of the installation
and processes involved.
My plan is to scratch and re-install from the ground up, since we haven't
issued and production certs; plus that's the best way to learn.

Below is a version list of the various components that are installed. I'm
not sure what the former's problem was with getting this implemented, but it
took him forever to go nowhere. I do not have that option. I thought I'd
include the versions in case anyone sees any obvious mismatches.

Once this is implemented, we will be using it for an application security
scheme as well as being a long-standing CA, so I'll be glad to assist and
collaborate wherever possible, although I myself am not a programmer or
developer.

My first question regards the levels and version of the components that are
required. I'm a little vague on the snapshot idea. I noted that certain
snapshots apply to the 0.9.x tree, but I didn't see a 0.9 release/download.
Are the snapshots complete packages, or add-on's/patches? In short, what do
I need to run to be on the ragged edge of stability without going too far
out on a limb?

Second question is regarding IE (ugh!). I don't use it much myself, but
unfortunately many do. Is Netscape required to manage the RA & CA sites or
can any other (IE/non IE) browser packages do it? What support is available
for creating IE usable client certs for general use. Also, has anyone used
an issued cert for use within an IIS server, possibly then using M$'s
keymanger to create client certs? (It's been awhile since I did any IIS
admin functions thank goodness, that aside, please pardon any ignorance on
my part)

Lastly, any knowledge share gained from stumbling on known or rare pitfalls
would be helpful; I don't mind bruising my toes, but it's kinda hard to walk
in a cast. ;)

I've been on the list for awhile and don't see a lot of traffic. Are the
other lists available as well?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Ron

BTW - My production platform is Intel/Linux Redhat 7.2 at present (and/or
Mandrake 8.x available for Beta also)
