hi

i suggest you use ntpd for time synchronization. so you needn't to run
cron job for time sync, ntpd does it for you :). i use local clock on ca
as ntpd time source (it should have some external clock like gps or dcf
radio) and internet servers on ra. before i start ntpd i use one time
synchronization via ntpdate.

Guys,

I wonder if any of you can shed some light on this for me...

I have found that my server does not keep very good time, so I have set
up a
job to be run by cron to set the time from Internet time servers.

Since putting the jon in the cron.hourly directory I am getting lots of
processes hanging around.

A snip from ps -eaf gives:

root     24623  1069  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 CROND
root     24624 24623  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 /bin/bash
/usr/bin/run-parts
/et
root     24625 24624  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 /bin/bash
/usr/bin/run-parts
/et
root     24626 24624  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 awk -v
progname=/etc/cron.hourly
root     24627 24625  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 /bin/sh /sbin/timehosts
root     24628 24627  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 netdate 129.6.15.28
132.163.4.10
root     24832  1069  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 CROND
root     24833 24832  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 /bin/bash
/usr/bin/run-parts
/et
root     24834 24833  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 /bin/bash
/usr/bin/run-parts
/et
root     24835 24833  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 awk -v
progname=/etc/cron.hourly
root     24836 24834  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 /bin/sh /sbin/timehosts
root     24837 24836  0 Mar20 ?        00:00:00 netdate 129.6.15.28
132.163.4.10

Can you tell me what is going on here please ?

Chris...
