First it sounds like an apache issue and not like an OpenCA issue. Second what do you mean with "refresh"? SSLVerifyClient forces apache to asks the user's browser to identify itself with a certificate (simple explanation). Usually a dialogue pops from the browser pops where the user select a certificate and enter it's passphrase.
