because I'm not quite sure which are those (plus versions). perl modules
are not a problem (cpan solves most problems). what else a part from
perl modules should I recompile?

good to know. I've never used sarge. I guess it's time to look at debian
'testing' (soon to become 'stable') which has Perl 5.8 onboard.
