The best thing for you to do is to join the OpenCA Users mailing list and direct your question there.
But for now... I think you are looking at the wrong section, HSM is for generating and storing the PKI CA private key, if you just want to implement client certificates. I am sure that you can use the Gemplus CSP on the client to generate the certificate signing request to OpenCA. Just install the Genplus software, and when asked which CSP to use during the client certificate request process, pick the Gemplus CSP, this will generate the private key on the smartcard. Chris...
