No solution, only more confusion: The complete
OPENCADIR/var/tmp dir lacks accessability after
starting the ca with openca_start. I mended this
at startup by adding chmod -R ../var/tmp, but this
does not help e.g. when dataexchange is performed
and the temporary dirs should be deleted (which
fails of course).

Im talking about RC4 and a 5.8.0 perl.

Check for a running XML-cache.

Thanks, it's working now. In fact XML-cache was running, but the socket was/is being created with r/w permitions only for root and not for the openca user.

How can I make sure the xml-cache socket is created with r/w permitions
for the openca user?

The problem is that we don't understand until now why this error happens.
I added something to the installation procedure but this does not help
much. It looks like a systematical error by us. BTW which Perl version do
you use? Some time ago there was a bug in setuid/setgid.
