I feel ashamed. I know now what's the problem.
I first tried to get some experience with Version 0.9.1. There was a problem with the Attribute "eMailAdress". Changing it to "mail" worked well in this version.
Seems like Version 0.9.2-RC4 has the same problem inverted. "emailadress" works, "mail" doesn't. It's all my fault, I didn't realize that I had changed the DN to "mail=..." instead of leaving it "emailadress=...".
The changes in ldap.xml were changes in form "not knowing exactly what I'm doing but hope it helps". The problem existed before already. And I undid the changes in ldap.xml. But there was no problem.
mail and emailaddress are different attributes. This sounds surprising but mail is a rfc822Mailbox and emailAddress is a PKCS#9 emailaddress. Both attributes have different OIDs. If you need support for mail then we can add. Do you like mail in the subject?
BTW mail is emailAddress in OpenSSL 0.9.6. This was a bug which was fixed in OpenSSL 0.9.7.
