have a look at the OpenSC (www.opensc.org) project, you will find supported SmartCards there. I like the Aladdin token and the CryptFlex cards. OpenCA 0.9.2 will include OpenSC support (but this seems to be untested yet). Please note that 0.9.2 HSM and SmartCard support is not working yet, there have been lots of changes recently. Personally, when I am done with nCipher HSM integration for our project, I plan to replace my own CA using a CryptoFlex or Aladdin device.
