I'm not sure if I've found a bug in the code or if there is an incompatibility, but can anyone comment on this?
i386/OpenBSD3.5 (most current) /usr/local/src/OpenCA/openca-0.9.2-RC6 # gcc -v Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-unknown-openbsd3.5/2.95.3/specs gcc version 2.95.3 20010125 (prerelease, propolice)

thats 'the problem' - it should compile with a newer gcc i havn't checked out what is the exact problem with 2.95 and apps.c but a newer gcc works with the code
