I'm having major grief with this error. I know that it is normally a bad key password. However, I have verified the key password (openssl rsa) and tried many attempts in case I mistyped the password.
Here is what I am doing. My aged 486 CA/RA running without X has a CA cert which is about to expire. The advice on the mailing list was to create a new CA with a new key. So I set about to reinitialize the CA. I first attempted to do this without reinitializing the database but, after I received this error the first time, I did reinitialize the database (thankfully, it is just a test system). The CA initialization process went fine. However, I then undertook to create the initial administrator. I am running all functions remotely from a Firefox web browser since there is no X on the CA/RA. All seems to work well until I try to issue the certificate. I have changed the role to RA Operator and I changed the key to 1024. Other than that, I took defaults. I am using OpenCA 0.9.1. What am I doing wrong? Thanks - John General Error.
