make sure that you have the Perl modules installed that enable perl to
talk to MySQL databases. If your distribution (you don't say what you are
using) uses rpm, then you can usually install package with a name like
like:

perl-mysql.rpm

You will need packages that install the perl modules:

DBD-mysql and DBI.
