Although I have spent a lot of time in the ocspd site I’m not really sure what are the basics in order to get ocspd in an operational state.

What do you mean ? Try to download the slides from the OCSP tutorial I
held during FOSDEM06, also there should be a video of the tutorial. If
it is not on-line, yet, contact the administrators of FOSDEM and ask
them for the video.

Have you made a testbed for it? If yes what exactly are you using? Openldap?

For the OCSP to be working you can use several sources of informations
where the CA certificates and the CRLs can be downloaded. Currently we
support FILE, HTTP and LDAP.

You need OpenLDAP libraries (libldap and libber) in order to enable the
OCSP to use LDAP to download certs/crls.

Besides this, you can use any LDAP server as a backend (as long as it supports
LDAPv3).

If you need more help, just let me know.
