Hi Listusers,

I went stuck on a "problem" that concerns special german characters.
Usually these are covored by the charakterset latin1 iso-8859-1. Since
I'd like to create certificates containing characters like these I put
the following lines in /home/of/openca/etc/config.xml :

snip ...
  <name>cert_chars</name>
            <value>LATIN1</value>
snap ...

When I create a CSR using Firefox, it works very well. The CSR itself,
the data in the tables certificate and request are really stored in
latin1 format and even the distributed certificate contains the right
characters.

The Problem occurs, when I create a CSR using M$ Internet Explorer. Then
the request data in SQL and the resulting certificate seem to contain
the Characters in utf-8 format. I dont understand that. Everything is
fine with my SQL database, OpenCA should be well configured.

But I need that functionality not only for goodlooking certificates (in
lartin1) but also for sucessful running of own SQL querys that dont work
because of the misformatted characters.

Am I doing something nasty? Did i forget something?
Any hints, suggestions, ideas, links?

Thx in advance
Jan Roesner
