I do not know if there is an automatic notification.  There is a utility
in the RA module which warns of expiring certs and will produce an email
based upon the mail templates in the mail library (warning - they could
use some error fixes depending on the language).  The warning period is
configurable in the etc/openca/servers/ra.conf(.template) and defaults
to 31 days.  Hope this helps - John
