Hello,

if you use the browser to generate the request, the key is stored in the
browser's database. There are no options to export the key directly, however
once you have issued the certificate on the CA and imported it on the user's
web browser, you'll be able to export the certificate (and the private key)
by opening the certificates panel (eg., from Preferences -> Advanced -> 
Encryption),
select the user's certificate and click on Export.

The exported file (.p12) will carry both the user's certificate and the
corresponding private key. Then you can use tools like OpenSSL to extract
the private key from the .p12 file (PKCS12).
