The segfault is caused by the parsefile method of XML::Twig, indeed. As described in
http://mail.libexpat.org/pipermail/expat-bugs/2009-November/002849.html I created a test XML-Twig.pl file that uses the method parsefile to parse a simple XML document and reproduced the problem.
