Mohamed,

I haven't tried to use Oracle and many of the Open Source projects I work with
have had significant integration problems using it because of their "special
sauce", which adds functionality, but detracts from interoperability:

Here are some thoughts if you can't get the DBI working.

1. MySQL is technically an Oracle product. It generally has better
performance and extensibility (sometimes at the sacrifice of advanced
functionality, which you probably aren't using anyway).

2. It is far more widely used in the Open Source Community and is designed
for interoperability with other DB and applications systems, which may result in
far lower total cost of ownership.

3. You can run it concurrently on the same machine(s) as an Oracle database
(just use a different port).

4. You are VERY unlikely to put much of a demand on either the servers or the
database with OpenCA - it is a very lightweight product when it comes to db
utilization.

5. Have you looked at your Oracle licensing? Setting up an OpenCA specific
instance may require unique server (and backup) Oracle license.

6. Other than getting by your internal "governance" organization, there is no
cost and very little setup time to try it (usually less than 15 minutes).
