Don't seem a problem with the Serial really. Something seems broken
before that line, as "HASH(0xa74b560)" has no sense there.
But I don't use sub CAs, can not replicate your problem here, and also I
don't know the procedure for it.

*I can only speculate*, but I think the code is checking in the DB for
the root CA signer certificate, and maybe it is not finding it. At least
the part of the code where you get the error is in the cert verification
code.
