The problem with PC/SC is that is always active unless you disable it
manually. You must open the Control Panel->Services option and disable
the "Smart Card Resource Manager" service. Then restart your computer
and that should be enough. The comm port will be available for you
now.
If this is not enogugh, then try disconnecting the reader, restart
your computer and after that connect the reader again.

i work with an GCR410 with the driver from gemplus (not PC/SC)
i installed PC/SC on my WinNT4sp6a system. now PC/SC always locks my reader.
i cannot access it any longer from opencard. i could uninstall PC/SC, but
i'd like to use both.
i always get the exception:
